The 9 regular levels in each world of DYE are a series of challenges with Pigments along the way. Each Pigment you rescue will restore a layer of color, and rescuing all 5 in a level will restore all color to that level. The Normal Mode of the level will have checkpoints along the way, while the Hard Mode modifier will remove all checkpoints and add additional danger. The 4 challenge levels in each world of DYE are filled with 100 "dust". You free a Pigment every 20 dust collected. So when I heard of this game, I really wanted to play it.Sadly, its has a lot of things that are the exact opposite of super meat boy.This game is about jumping trough levels, getting collectibles so you can go to the next level.First of all, every level is way longer than a single level in super meat boy. Now this wouldn't be bad if the checkpoint system was not that bad. But the checkpoints are sometimes in place just to ♥♥♥♥ you over and they only save very specifically which of the collectibles you get. So if you take a detour to get an extra collectible, it still won't save it.Second, sometimes the difficulty spikes at random. A certain level in world 2 game me only at that small points more deaths then I got in the first world only, only to be fine after that level.Lastly is that the game doesn't feel precise. The wall jumping felt it wasn't exact every time I jumped off a wall. Your'e jumps seemed like it had a delay sometimes. Moving platforms that sometimes jus fling you right off. Bouncy platforms that randomize how high you jump, no matter how hard you press the button. And then there are the wooden platforms. You can't fall straight through them when you use a controller, unless you want to use the d-pad, but that makes it hard to make the jump that comes after that. This game is hard and I get that, but it feels not precise enough for a platformer that seems to push speed for that hardcore players, but also for casuals. Mostly because you need a certain amount of collectibles to even get further in the game, and most of them are locked behind speed sections. One good thing. The bosses are good. It feels good to slowly learn the bosses pattern and jumping trough its attacks to defeat them. Sadly, this is not enough to play this game for.TL;DR if you like super meat boy, that doesn't mean you will like this game. This is not a casual game. This is for hardcore platform gamers that can live with sometimes imprecise controls and a game that has unforgiving level design. If that is you, maybe also look at Rex Rocket. That also might be something for you.. I really don't like platformers where you can't kill the bad guys, and it's so weird because I play a lot of them.This game is just so dang hard it's ridiculous, I just can't do it. And that's coming from someone who unlocked The Kid in Super Meat Boy. I also hate the music, the lack of a real ending is dumb, and the linearity of the worlds is unnecessary. I'm happy there are bosses but I'm sad they're generic. Also, the wall sliding in this game is the worst ever.It's cheap so that's good, and mayble you'll like it more than me, but I can't recommend it. TGH is talented but dumb.. I'm not very far into this game but so far it's pretty good. It's got good graphics and music and is generally just very pleasing to play. The levels are fun and challenging. Overall this is a good game for those looking to burn some time hopping around looking for color.. Speedrunners and fans of rock hard platformers might get some amount of enjoyment out of this, but only if they have played every other game of this genre on steam. It's just a bland super meatboy clone.And the music ... just doesn't fit.. This game is great! Especially if you enjoy a challenging and rewarding platformer. It tests your skills very well, and has a fun theme to it.. It's just a basic platformer.It's not bad but, just really a plain old platformer with a good soundtrack.But to me, it can get boring after awhile.So I wouldn't recommend this game if it was $1.00But because it is, i'll give it to them.. Kinda like Super Meat Boy, but with worse controls and inconsistent design. For example, the game emphasizes speed platforming, but level selection is tedious. You have to run around in an overworld map type thing instead of just being albe to press a "next level" button after completing an area. Go replay Super Meat Boy instead of buying this game.. Good game. VERY challenging though - probably the hardest game I've played so far that was still fun. Expect to die hundreds of times per level on your first run. Controls, music, artwork are excellent though; and I find myself going back to it to beat another level or 2. One downside is its checkpoints - there should be a few more of them and less awkwardly placed in some levels, and harder unique levels would have been preferred over a "hard mode" with no checkpoints of every level. Still a solid game that's well worth buying. :)
